Waikato Dairy Farming - Term 3, 2009
What you will do
Give your class a practical example of a New Zealand dairy farm. Look at what happens down on the farm during the busy spring season. Meet a farm manager and his staff as they take part in the milking process, discuss animal and pasture management from a seasonal perspective,examine environmental issues and feed some new born calves. Students will also meet farm support agencies and scientists working on agricultural research and development. Milk cows on an operational dairy farm, work closely with farm staff and supporting industry advisors, meet the people behind agricultural research and development, and examine how the environmental impacts of dairy farming are reduced.
Where you will go
Travel to the Waikato and spend time on a dairy farm. Investigate current farming processes and impacts. Meet dairy scientists to learn about research pathways that help protect and advance the industry's edge in the global market.
