I am a LEARNZ teacher.

Job description

During each school term I organise and run online field trip experiences for classes throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Each online experience has narrated background pages and related activities so that everyone knows a little about where we're going and what we are going to see and do. I help teachers get ready with curriculum and classroom ideas. Out in the field we get to meet and work with a range of people involved in a variety of kaupapa. We talk with schools during live web conferences and I update each day of the field trip via video, a Google Earth Tour, and social media posts. I take class ambassadors with me and together we explore some of New Zealand's special places.

Time in job

I started in the role of LEARNZ teacher in 2009.

What I am looking forward to this year

I am looking forward to being able to explore some places in Aotearoa that I have not been to yet, meeting more interesting experts, and sharing my discoveries with students throughout the country.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Sport and Recreation. Diploma of Teaching. Graduate Diploma of Education Management.

Experience

I have taught mainly at the upper levels within the primary sector. Most recently I have worked as a teaching Deputy Principal.

Interests outside LEARNZ

Family and friends, fishing and the outdoors, gym, cooking.
