Meet Darren the LEARNZ Teacher
Job
I am one of the secondary LEARNZ teachers
Job Description
To bring the world “live” into Secondary schools. I aim to be of most use to Agriculture, Geography and Science classes in years 11-13 although other classes are welcome to join. “Live” means we will link up using audioconferences with experts, digital video and digital stills. Emails, web boards and daily diaries are also used. The questions asked are the ones you invent from reading the background material and completing the online activities.
Time in job
I started working as a LEARNZ teacher at the beginning of July 2007
Favourite part of job
Travelling to so many interesting places around New Zealand and beyond, and linking you with the experts there. Taking you to places you would never normally be able to visit like deep underground in coal mines or even down to Antarctica!
Qualifications
BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences, MSc in Sports Science, Dip Tching, Registered teacher
Experience
Originally I taught physical education in England and came over to New Zealand at the beginning of 1995. I hung up my whistle and taught science and biology at Linwood College before moving to Rangiora High School in 1996, teaching science and physics there until 2007. In 2006 I won a New Zealand Sciences, Mathematics and Technology Teacher Fellowship for a project studying comets and meteors.
Interests outside LEARNZ
